Park Details

Nairobi National Park is a Kenyan national park established in 1946. It boasts the unique distinction of being the only wildlife park in the world located so close to a major city – Nairobi, Kenya’s capital. Despite its relatively small size of 117 square kilometers, the park is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and rhinos.

The park is divided into three main zones:

  • The Athi Plains: This area is home to most of the park’s wildlife, including lions, zebras, and wildebeest.
  • The Kitengela Plains: While having a smaller population of animals compared to the Athi Plains, the Kitengela Plains offer a higher chance of spotting these creatures.
  • The Upper Athi River: This permanent source of water serves as a vital resource for the park’s wildlife and is a popular spot for birdwatching.

Here are some of the activities and attractions visitors can enjoy at the National Park:

  • Game drives: Embark on a thrilling adventure in an open-roofed van and witness the park’s wildlife roaming freely in their natural habitat.
  • Bush walks: Explore the park’s diverse landscapes on foot, accompanied by an experienced guide, for a closer look at the flora and fauna.
  • Birdwatching: With over 400 bird species recorded in the park, Nairobi National Park is a paradise for bird enthusiasts. Keep an eye out for migratory birds during the November-April season.
  • Visit the Nairobi Animal Orphanage: Witness the commendable efforts of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned elephants and rhinos.
  • Enjoy panoramic views: Take in the breathtaking scenery of the park from various vantage points, including the Impala Observation Point and the Ivory Burning Site Monument.
  • Picnics: Designated picnic areas within the park provide the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy a meal surrounded by nature.

Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a unique adventure, Nairobi National Park has something to offer everyone.
